The Rules and Extras may be added to as I think of new things that will keep me in line, but to start with this is what I have thought of.
I have available £1 per day.
Any day that the £1 is not spent it will roll forward to be available the next day.
I can not borrow against future days.
I cannot use credit or debit cards and reimburse the account later (we know it won't get done!!).
I can make full use of any points/vouchers/coupons/discounts etc that I have accrued or find.
I can accept gifts of food at any time.
My personal money may be used for eating/drinking out purposes but NOT for groceries or for top up shops.
I will try to get receipts for every purchase to keep proof of my spending.
A daily diary will be kept of recipes and receipts.
I can make good use of free items such as sugar, salt, pepper etc sachets from shops if I am eating or drinking in there, but I may not take more than a couple of each.
The Challenge is MY Challenge and although I will be sharing most of my foods, rice, pasta, vegetables etc with LH from the £1 per day allowed, as a vegetarian I do not eat meat of any description and therefore any meat purchased for consumption by LH is outside the remit of this Challenge. Bargains will be searched for in the usual way for all meaty items and will be packaged and frozen to get the most meals for the money spent.
I will not stock up in the weeks or days before the Challenge starts. On the 1st January 2014 whatever is in the house is available for my use, anything else needed must be purchased out of the available money for each day.
I can go in for any competitions that enable me to win food and add them to the storecupboard if I am lucky enough to win.
--- --- ---
To make my money go as far as possible I will ...
Pick from nature's bounty
Make good use of all foods whether they be homegrown or purchased cheaply to process at home
Batch bake and freeze to have food or snacks ready for immediate use
Make good use of all seeds I already have in stock, although any further purchases of seeds must come out of this years budget if they are to be eaten this year.
And I will look out in supermarkets for any end of day yellow stickered bargains.
(I didn't have a photo of my own for this so I looked on Google Images and found this one, it turns out it's one of Ilona's pictures.
(MeanQueen from 'Life after Money') so a photo credit for her :-)
But most of all I will make every penny count, I will not waste any money, food or recyclable items.
